Beef - Dictionary
- Calf: A newborn bovine.
- Heifer: A young female that has not yet had a calf.
- Cow: A mature female bovine.
- Bull: A mature male bovine.
- Steer: A castrated male.
- Backgrounder: An animal that has been weaned, but is not yet old enough to be placed into a feedlot.
- Ruminant: A four-stomached animal like cattle, sheep, goats, deer or bison.
