Beef - Dictionary

Calf: A newborn bovine.
Heifer: A young female that has not yet had a calf.
Cow: A mature female bovine.
Bull: A mature male bovine.
Steer: A castrated male.
Backgrounder: An animal that has been weaned, but is not yet old enough to be placed into a feedlot.
Ruminant: A four-stomached animal like cattle, sheep, goats, deer or bison.
